The STRIVE Method: Empowering You to Quit Alcohol and Thrive 💪🌟
Most people mining the Internet with a ‘sobriety detector’ want a healthier relationship with alcohol.
That’s the first step.
The second is realising that if you’re seeking that treasure, you’ll only find Fools’ Gold. 🚫💰
The third step is to stop drinking permanently.
And for most people, that’s it.
Let the credits roll.
STRIVERS view stopping drinking as the beginning, not the end. With the STRIVE Method, you'll dive into a world of self-discovery, resilience, and conscious living. You'll unlock a new level of awareness and fulfilment by confronting trauma, building relationships with your inner self, and learning to self-regulate. 🌟✨🚀
The Limitations of Being AFAF (Alcohol-Free-As-Fuck) 🚫🍺
A wise owl once told me you don’t know what you don’t know.
For 35 years, alcohol was a crucial aspect of my life. I drank it most days and always viewed it as a net positive. When I stopped, its absence profoundly affected my grey matter. Questions fluttered like: Why is this my career? Why am I living here? Why am I in this relationship? Why is this, my friend? Why do I eat this? Why am I afraid of that?
Answers were encrusted in trauma, abuse, pain, hurt, and suffering - a past that created the man in the mirror whose brain had hidden it in a coffin, afraid that exposure to such toxins would render me unable to function.
In short, I was wounded.
But I couldn’t feel the pain because my brain didn’t want my body to feel anything.
So, I decided to try and feel.
It hurt.
I confronted trauma, built relationships with my inner children, and learned to self-regulate, ground, and live life more consciously.
And I didn’t need to do this.
I could have stopped drinking and carried on living unconsciously.
Most people do.
But not this guy and not the folks at STRIVE.
The Line ⬆️⬇️
How do you become more conscious?
The answer lies in increasing levels of self-awareness.
You need to know where you are.
STRIVERS use a Conscious Leadership Group metaphor known as ‘The Line’ to identify where we’re at.
When acting ABOVE the line, you’re in SELF-energy or behaving consciously. To rise above the line, engage in the 8C’s (calmness, clarity, courage, confidence, creativity, compassion, curiosity, and connection) or the 5 Ps of SELF (playfulness, patience, presence, perspective, and persistence). When you’re above the line, you don’t need alcohol. 🚫🙅♂️🌈
When you’re BELOW the line, you’re PARTS-activated (personality archetypes like The Judge, Critic, or Perfectionist) or in an ego state. When you fall below the line, you’re in a state of victim consciousness and are full of judgment, blame, or defensiveness. In these states, PARTS of our personality choose to drink to keep us safe.
STRIVERS work on two essential concepts.
Increasing line awareness. Where am I right now? Above or below the line?
Finding ways to self-regulate to rise above the line.
Self-awareness in motion.
The Challenge 😬
It’s challenging to do 1 & 2 because your PARTS are highly resistant to change. Your Judge, Critic, Perfectionist - all of these PARTS use safety strategies learned in childhood.
As your self-awareness increases, so does the internal chatter from PARTS fighting to maintain control.
Your heightened self-awareness leads to questions, and the answers unearth shame, humiliation, embarrassment, anxiety, and stress. You may experience emotions previously tightly packed behind a dam built by your PARTS.
But ‘hard’ doesn’t mean it can’t be ‘interesting’ or even ‘fun.’ 😉
The STRIVE Method 🏆🚀
The STRIVE Method utilises a Quest-based approach to ensure the right balance of education and embodiment.
We base Quests on the 8 C’s and 5 P’s of SELF, which are voluntary. Each Quest has three levels of complexity. The more complex the level, the more embodied in the subject you become.
When a STRIVER completes a Quest, we add points to a scorecard providing an intrinsic motivation to heal while you learn.
Each Quest starts with a meditation, which is your education around a specific topic. Once you choose a Quest, your embodiment begins. For example, imagine you decide to take on the Winner-Winner Quest. The meditation draws your attention to the importance of feeling like a winner if you want to live a SELF-led life AFAF. If you choose the TOUGHEST Quest, you’ll record five daily wins for the next 30 days - and when you’re in the thick of that, you’re embodying what it feels like to be a winner—two very different things.
Our Family 👪❤️
The final component of the STRIVE Method is STRIVE itself.
Our family.
Suppose you want to live a SELF-led life, AFAF; good luck doing that alone. We are social beings; on this journey, we need to feel seen and heard and that our experiences matter. We need our shame, guilt, and humiliation normalised. We need to feel safe to speak the truth, ask questions, and take the appropriate action to heal. At STRIVE, we do this through the Discord social app and weekly gatherings and coaching sessions on Zoom.
The IVDBS 💔🍷
At the heart of our work is the belief that we’re designed from birth to drink alcohol through an invisible, violent, and dominant belief system (IVDBS). It’s violent because it kills 3.3m per year, dominant because most people drink it, and invisible because it doesn’t have a name - until now. STRIVERS call this IVDBS Alcoholism, and understanding the core tenets of this belief system and creating a healthier one is central to our work. If you want to be free of alcohol cravings, a deep understanding of IVDBS will take you there.
